“Happy Mania”, which depicted the strong passion in chasing happiness in the female character, became a top seller of 3 million units, and became the first visual adaptation of her title as a TV drama. Her work “Sakuran” portraying the emotions of a prostitute living in Japan’s Edo period became popular and was made into a motion picture by one of Japan’s top photographer and movie director Mika Ninagawa.
Her title “Sugar Sugar Rune” targeting elementary school girls became a TV animation and captured a wide fandom, not only in Japan but in France and 40 countries in which it was distributed in. The title “Hataraki Man” focusing on working women sold more than 4 million print units, being made into an animation and motion picture, became her largest hit maker.
She is Japan’s best selling female manga artist targeting a wide variety of genre and generations who has captivated a large fandom.
In her personal life, she is married to Hideaki Anno, the director of Japan’s iconic animation Evangelion. The creator couple both represent Japan.
